Important Update- We just found out today from Heritage of Pride that they are changing our permit, and we will now be lining up for the march in a different time and place than we stated in previous messages: The ACT UP float will be in Section 8 - Gather on 38th St between 5th and 6th Ave (closer to 6th Ave) at 11:30am
We will have banners, costumes, signs, as well as fliers and condoms to distribute all demanding an improved, non-discriminatory, sex positive HIV prevention strategy that will combat the tragic rise in infections being seen among gay youth and other marginalized populations. We will also be calling for an end to the anti-public health policing practice that uses condom possession as evidence for prostitution charges. We need your powerful voice and presence for ACT UP to have a strong showing at Pride!!

March With ACT UP to Demand Condom Access for Prostitutes, Demonstrations in Schools and Availability in Prisions
Written by John Riley
Wednesday, 09 June 2010 20:23
ACT UP Marches in the NYC LGBT Pride March on Sunday June 27th. We'll have a float and contingent. We'll focus on repealing the 3 Condoms Rule that allows police to list possession of condoms in evidence for those arrested on prostitution charges. This harmful rule says possession of condoms provides "evidence" of intent to prostitute and is supported by the district attorney's association. ACT UP is calling for a law to eliminate the rule. We are also calling for Bloomberg to make condom demonstrations a mandatory part of the public school curriculum and for the bureau of corrections to allow prisoners easy access to condoms in prison, not just for conjugal visits.

Organized by the Consumer Advisory Board - CAB of GMHC For immediate release: GMHC in Crisis - Rally & Press Conference :
The GMHC Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) is asking CEO for the community involvement and help in finding a new building for at least 2 years. Instead, the Board of Directors took that responsibility upon itself and produced a building with so many restrictions that prompted the CAB to request a meeting with the whole Board, which never happened. Now we fear the lease will be signed despite general opposition. The CAB is demanding a meeting with the whole Board of Directors and other GMHC stakeholders before the lease is signed. If the board continues with plans to sign the lease despite the CAB and other stake holders opposition we are prepared to have a series of rallies at 450 W. 33rd Street, the site of the new proposed location (AP Building).
And the deal breakers are: *Not having an in house fully functioning kitchen and a meals program as we have had for the past 25 years. The meals program is the #1 most utilized service and also has social implications. *No dinner on Fridays (Friday dinner is the most popular service among clients) *No HIV Testing. Federal, State and City policies focus reducing HIV rates by increasing HIV testing and connecting people diagnosed HIV + to services.
RALLY TO DEMAND FULL FUNDING TO FIGHT GLOBAL AIDS!
Written by admin33

President Obama and his rich donors dined on caviar and sipped champagne at a $50,000-per-person fundraiser in NYC on May 13th. Outside the fundraiser 500 activists from ACT UP/NY and Philadelphia, Health GAP, NYCAHN/VOCAL, African Services Committee, Housing Works, CHAMP, AMSA and our allies were demonstrating to demand that he keep his promise to fund AIDS treatment around the world. Instead of increasing the number of people on treatment, like he promised, Obama is cutting funding for global AIDS, and people are being forced onto waiting lists for AIDS drugs. These people are sick, and without treatment, they will die. And the US promised them treatment!
Thursday, May 13th at 5:30pm In front of St. Regis Hotel, corner of 55th & 5th Aves. RSVP suggested, but not required, to 917-517-5202 or <mailto:

Repeal the 3 Condom Rule; Call Your State Senator Mon. & Tue.

Condoms are for EVERY DAY, NOT JUST Valentines Day!
(April 25, 2010) An important HIV prevention bill is scheduled for a vote in the New York State Senate Codes Committee this Tuesday. Whether you live in his Bronx district or not, please call moderate Democrat Jeffrey Klein at 518-455-3595 to urge him to support bill S1289, the “No Condoms as Evidence of Prostitution Bill.” Currently, people are afraid to carry more than three condoms because upon arrest, they can be used as evidence of intent to engage in prostitution. This bill would prohibit that practice. We will get this bill out of committee and onto a floor vote if all Democrats in the committee vote yes. Again, call moderate Democrat Jeffrey Klein on Monday at 518-455-3595. Other Democrats to call are Squadron, Sampson, and Huntley. The State Senate Switchboard number is 518-455-2800. Thank you.
